Noticed, yesterday, the first new leaves on Lilium candidum. These will become a fairly sizeable rosette, say ten inches across, and spend the whole winter green, even if they get a little mashed by snow and tattered by cold. Perfect companions for the rabbitbrush. (If we don’t count eremurus as a bulb, the only other large bulb in the all-rabbitbrush border is the Crown Imperial, Fritillaria imperialis.)
