no snow yet

Hello everyone; once again it is I, Chess the purebred border collie, here to bring you the latest news from the garden, even though today there isn’t any. You may remember me from such delightful posts as “Stinker’s Revenge” and “Life With A Nut”, among so many, many others.

Here I am in a characteristic pose. Out of focus, of course. I’m looking really serious. This was taken after our walk, but I still felt serious. I’m not sure about what, but it was something.

It was a pretty nice day today, but after the guy I live with came home from an appointment, and I had my dinner, we went on our walk, and the temperature started dropping. I’m just going to show some pictures from our walk. The guy I live with said his hands were getting cold. He has gloves, but didn’t put them on, so he was really just complaining to hear himself complain. He does that a lot.

This is me on a sniffing detour. That line is where they dug for a new sewer line through the field. That’s the main path beyond me, not the one we walk on.

In some places the creek is really deep.

The willows are kind of scary but I go in there sometimes anyway.

Well, that was our walk. The guy I live with took some pictures of me afterwards and this is one of them. I had a good time, as you can see. It’s getting colder and colder and we’re supposed to get more cold than we’ve had in years. “You mean like last year”, says the guy I live with. He says people have really short memories. I can hardly wait for the snow.

Until next time, then.

  1. Portraits of you inside, Chess, make your surroundings look as though you live in a warm and golden home. In contrast, of course, to the blue exterior shots where you can just tell the world is cold. Beautiful, but cold. Especially like the “getting really cold” tree and sky, along with both of your photos. And I suspect once the guy you live with gets out his gloves that they are out for the winter.

It is kind of warm and golden. My mommy made it that way.
It could be that we’ll just have some cold and then it’ll warm up, the way it used to, here. Mostly nice, then cold, then a lot of nice, then cold. The real snow comes in March, April, and May. Hard to believe, I know.
The guy I live with says that when he and my mommy moved into this house, he took a week of vacation in January (1986) and it was in the 60s all week long. That’s pretty typical for here, except for the last few winters. The funny thing is that if it isn’t cold and snowing, people around here completely freak out and talk about how snow is water for the plants and now they’ll have to water, etc.

The landscape does look icy this morning but it’s good to know you enjoy your walks so much, pity your guy doesn’t. Then nice and snug at home until the next walk, hopefully in that white stuff you are longing for.

We go twice a day. It’s supposed to be good for both of us, but the guy I live with says it reminds him of working outside on chilly evenings, and how lonely it was. I think it’s nice that he sacrifices his own comfort for my happiness. At least I thought that until this afternoon, when I was completely humiliated.
