movie day

Greetings and salutations, everyone; yes, once again it is I, Mani the purebred border collie, filling in for the guy I live with, and here today with movies, and other things.
You may remember me from such posts as “Some Movies”, among so many, many others.

Here I am in a characteristic pose.
Things are pretty overgrown here, as you can tell.

It’s a nice, quiet Sunday afternoon, and even though it didn’t rain yesterday like they said, it’s pretty pleasant here.

Believe it or not, there are more colchicums in flower here.
This is Colchicum davisii:
And this is ‘Innocence’, which the guy I live with says is the second-best white-flowered colchicum. (We do have the best, Colchicum speciosum ‘Album’, but you’ll have to wait for that one.)
You can see that these are growing in full sun. When colchicums are planted in a little bit too much shade they tend to fall over.
They’re also growing in the heavy clay that was spread over the nice native soil when the house was built fifty years ago.

So those are today’s colchicums.

A couple of hours ago the guy I live with when to do some work in “the enclosure”. I was surprised to hear the word “work”.
He couldn’t do anything, though, because there was someone in the enclosure who had much more important things to do.

The guy I live with just stood there very quietly with his phone. I was standing next to him but I could see what was happening.

The guy I live with took this as a sign to not do anything in this part of the garden.

So that’s it for now. I hope you enjoyed the movies.

Until next time, then.

Colchiums are pretty also. White happens to be my favorite color.

The movies are a delight. An excellent reason to not do any work in the area.

I just planted my colchicums which include C. autumnale album. Considerably smaller blooms than your upcoming C. speciosum album, I have read.

Thanks. The hummingbird seemed impatient at first and then when the guy I live with just stood there with his phone the hummingbird went about his business.
He also told me how good I was, not crashing into the garden.
Those are Agastache ‘Desert Sunrise’, I think.
The white Colchicum autumnale will increase, though not as fast as ‘Nancy Lindsay’. The guy I live with planted more white ones in “the enclosure” and they’re just starting to come up. Very attractive plant.
You can see pictures of Colchicum speciosum ‘Album’ on the post “There And Back Again”.
He got those from White Flower Farm, appropriately enough, at least twenty years ago and hasn’t seen them for sale since.

Great videos. Love hummingbirds. We have a couple of bright pink agastache that were supposed to be annual but have survived for many seasons. I look forward to their flowering with bright purple Liatris every year. The colchicums are quite lovely. A nice touch at this time of year.

Thanks. The hummingbirds seem quite annoyed when we stand next to whatever they want to check out.
They have to leave very soon, and the guy I live with said it’s like when he has to go out for an appointment and someone comes up to try to sell him siding or new windows.
We’re only seeing male broad-tailed hummingbirds now. There may still be some females but we haven’t seen them.
They have a very long flight ahead of them, but there are lots of flowers for them on the way south: there’s a zauschneria on the “sky islands” in southern Arizona, all the agastaches in southern New Mexico, west Texas, and northern Mexico, all kinds of red-flowered penstemons in northern Mexico, Salvia greggii in west Texas, S. darcyi in Nuevo Leon, and so on.
Kind of cool to think about.
