Greetings and salutations, everyone; yes, once again it is I, Mani the purebred border collie, filling in for the guy I live with, and here today to talk about the instant greenhouse.
You may remember me from such similarly-themed posts as “The Finished Project”, among so many, many others.
Here I am in a characteristic pose.
I think I don’t need to explain what happened here.
The guy I live with said he would have liked a lot more snow, but that this will do for at least a little while.
Yesterday, or maybe the day before (I forget), since he read that it was going to get cold and maybe even snow, he decided to construct an “instant greenhouse” over the bulb frame.
He just wanted a little extra protection for some potted snowdrops. They don’t really need it, but he wanted to do this anyway.
You may recall that there was another bulb frame here, which I talked about in the post I mentioned at the beginning, but the guy I live with decided that it was a failure, and ugly, too, so this is the instant greenhouse.
I think you’ll agree this is a truly magnificent bit of construction. Elegant and practical, too.
He said he was going to call everyone he knew to come over and marvel at his effort.
I wondered if it might be more sensible if he offered to pay people to come over.
Anyway, it snowed, and this was the instant greenhouse this morning.

I don’t have anything more to say.

Until next time, then.
Mani, important question: did you offer moral support?
(I did laugh out loud; much appreciated in a mad, mad world.)
Really I didn’t offer much. I thought it was funny.
on a serious note, has the guy you live with used greenhouses with success? I have been tempted to, but with the intense winter sun in Colorado, I have wondered if I would end up roasting plants.
The guy I live with’s neighbor built a spectacular greenhouse, for starting tomatoes and so on.
He has thought for a number of years he should have a bulb house, which wouldn’t be as hot as a regular greenhouse, just enough heat to keep it a little above freezing; it would have to be custom-built. Or have his neighbor help him.
He could grow all the autumn-flowering species of narcissus from Spain, cyclamen that won’t survive outdoors here (they have non-hardy overwintering leaves) and things like that. Pretty esoteric gardening, I think.
It was very excellent–while it lasted.
The guy I live with says thanks. Leonardo da Vinci he is certainly not.
You probably should not tell the guy you live with that I found this to be amusing.
I thought it was pretty funny.
Like others here, I did chuckle. It seemed like a good idea and great while it lasted.
It’s back up now, with a piece of wood to keep the plastic on.
You have willows out back and thin branches would make some down and dirty support arches/hoops.
All the willows are gone. Mowed down.
OOPSIE!!! THE ‘greenhouse’ sorta deeflated itself overnite Mani!! You tried Guy! Wee try to send you more snow! **purrss** BellaDharma an ((hugss)) BellaSita Mum
It’s back up now, with a piece of wood to keep the plastic in place.
Really, this platic cover is all that’s necessary, according to the guy I live with.
HURRAH for Guy fixin THE Greenhuse covurr…wee hope it werkss guud now Mani!
Thanks. All it needs to do is keep the soil there from freezing solid, and it seems to work.
