the face of autumn

Some of Cindy’s pictures, and some of mine. And, yes, German poetry. (My translation at the bottom.)

[Stefan George]

bark of Alnus tenuifolia

Come into the park some say is dead, and look:
The luster of the distant, smiling border
Impossible blue of crystalline clouds
Brightens the pond and the colored path.
Take, here, the deep yellow—the gentle gray
Of birch and of box—the wind is warm–
The late roses not yet withered-
Pick and kiss them, braid a wreath-
Do not forget these last asters-
Purple ringing the wild twining grapes-
And what remains of the green life
Softly transforms the face of autumn.
